Discuss the ways in which media products are produced and distributed to audience. Referring to either Straight Outta Compton or I, Daniel Blake to support your answers
In I, Daniel Blake the two distributors are eOne films (UK) and Le Pacte (France). This is different from the Hollywood film industry as there is no use of vertical integration in Britain this means that independent films have to find their own distribution companies to distribute their films in different companies. For instance Entertainment one distributed the film in the Uk and Le Pacte distributed the film in France.
This film was released firstly in Cannes on the 13th May 2016 and then in the Uk on the 21st October 2016. In the uk around this date is half term, and this will attract people to watch the film because they will have free time around then and will be encouraged to go and watch it. In France the film was released in may and this is during Spring/summer time and so people will be more encouraged to go out and watch the film, and by word of mouth people will find out reviews of the movie and this is encourage people to go and watch the movie.
The classification of the film is a 15, and this means that there could be dangerous behavioural scenes that may encourage younger people to think that this is acceptable, also in a age rated 15 film there could be drug misuse and may contain strong language. The cut off for I, Daniel Blake is a 15 because the producers do not want to encourage younger people to think that what is going on is acceptable and so they will produce a film for more mature people, which is 15 and over.
For I, Daniel Blake the use on no vertical integration is evident in the film due to the limited budget. For instance the location was set in a Newcastle council estate tells us that someone people live in situations were they have no money so the film reflected that when they filmed. Also the use of unknown actors which shows that they are not using the cast to sell the film. The main protagonist is played by Daniel Johns who has no previous film experience.
