Magazines

Brand identity-

A company's brand identity is how that business wants to be perceived by consumers. The components of the brand (name, logo, tone, tagline, typeface) are created by the business to reflect the value the company is trying to bring to the market and to appeal to its customers.

Aspirational magazine-

Relating to or characterised by aspiration or a strong desire for something: their aspirational goals for the New Year. 2. aimed at or appealing to people who want to attain a higher social position or standard of living: a magazine featuring aspirational products for the home.

‘magazines like Nuts and loaded ( amongst others) have closed recently’
What do you think might have been some of the reasons this occurred?-

The reasons why some magazines may have closed is due to the fact that they might not be getting enough funding to produce their magazine as they're not making enough profit. Also, there are more online magazines and newspapers which people can access for free and so some people may want to use the online versions as it will be easier to use and they are usually free of charge, which is what people tend to prefer.

Also, people may be embarrassed to go out a buy a magazine with a provocative woman on the front cover, and so less people will be buying it for this reason and so will turn to online magazines where no body else can see what they're reading and so won't feel embarrassed.

The role of Women- Summary-

- Women began campaigning for improved rights (1960s) for improved rights.

- They wanted to address the issues pf equal pay as well as very narrow representation in media texts e.g. advertising.

- As women had more money to advertisers and magazine publications became more likely to target them. This gave rise to new titles, such as celebrity magazines.
