ESPN magazine covers

Image
In these magazine covers, we can see that the male in this photo is show from a low angle and so it shows him as powerful and that he dominates. The female shot is at an eye-level angle which sows no power and no authority, just that she is a boxer, which we can see from the way she is positions and the props used. Around the female photo there is no writing, it is just blank and so they are not sitting any of her achievements or any information about her. Whereas, in the male photo there is lots of information about his records and previous fights etc.

Women in Sport Research

- The 2012 Olympic Games in London were the first Olympics where every participating country included female athletes. They were also the first Olympics in which women competed in all sports in the program. Women have competed in the Olympics since  1900 , following an all-male Games in 1896. -  Female Athletes in the 1920's During the 1920's, many Canadian women expressed an interest in sports. However, the old fashioned views of others often got in the way of their success. Canadian women were a force to be reckoned with on a world scale. Many others enjoyed a variety of sports simply for pleasure and exercise. Canadian women dominated sports during the Golden Age, setting many world records, winning olympic medals, and breaking barriers for generations to come. However, they did not do this without opposition. Men were reluctant to allow women to compete at the world's stages because they believed it was "unladylike", or women's bodies simply coul

Dunkirk advert

In this advert, there is a shot of a high-angle which looks down on hundreds of soldiers. The effect of this camera angle is to emphasise that these men are vulnerable and something could happen to them at ant time. Also an eye-line shot is used to make you sympathise with the soldiers as we can see their facial expressions clearly which shows them being a mix of scared, anxious and worried.

Genre Theory

‘genres are instances of repetition and difference’... Discuss what this statement means in relation to the duel scene from The Magnificent 7, directed by Antoine Fuqua? Use specific  evidence from the scene to support your ideas. From this quote, Neale means that if all genres are the same then it will become boring and people will stop watching movies as they will know what is going to happen, and so if there is some repetition which shows which genre the text is, then it will still be understandable for people and they will want to go and watch it if it is a genre of their liking. Also, he means that there needs to be some difference within the text otherwise people will start to find it boring and too repetitive and so they will stop watching films of a certain genre. In the Magnificent 7, for a movie of this genre there is still some repetition as otherwise people won't enjoy the movie at all and so will not enjoy it if there is absolutely no repetition at all. Propp Character Role

1. The hero- the hero within this movie is Matt Brody as he is someone who starts off acting all cocky and then when a serious incident occurs, he is there and sorts out the issue and saves a drug scandal. 2. The villain- in this film the villain is Victoria Leeds, she just moved to the area recently and now runs the country club, she is using the country club as a money laundry to cover up her drug business. 3.The despatcher- in this movie, I feel that the best suited character to this definition is David Hasselhoff, as when he comes back into the modern movie to help Mitch Buchannon, he guides him to do what he thinks is right and motivates him to continue to do what right for him and assist in saving the drug scandal. 4. The princess- once again Matt Brody suits this role as whilst he is trying to save and stop the drug scandal from happening he gets caught and the villain attempts to down him, he is saved and then goes onto saving the dilemma. 5. The helper- there are many

Genre

Genre is- a style or category of art, music, or literature. French for type or form. When someone says that there is evolution within a genre, it is when a text has more than one type of genre and it merges together, for example, Rom-com (which is a mixture of romance and comedy).

Barthes’ Hermeneutic Code (Enigma Code)

Image
The scene I have chosen is from Harry Potter;  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzZ7WCRRjs4 There are many ways in which suspense is created in this scene as we are unsure what it going on, firstly, as there is low-key-lighting which means that we can struggle to see what is going on in the scene and unsure what could be lurking around to harm or even kill someone. We can only really focus on the main character in the centre of the screen until someone new comes into the scene, which we discover later on. Furthermore, throughout this scene the camera shot used is a medium shot, which allows the viewers to closely see the facial expressions of the characters and how they are feeling and also some background, which is tough to see as low-key-lighting is being used. We can see that the main character in the scene is clearly scared or worried about something and wants to investigate what the noises are coming from. Diegetic sound is being used as the character in thi

McDonald's adverts

Image
In the first video, you can see that one of McDonalds aims is to bring people together. Firstly, they use rap/ grime music to engage younger watchers as this is something which most people listen to. It then goes through some of what some generations would be doing in their daily life, hanging out with friends for the younger generation, and for the older man he is just getting on with his life, ending his own business and doing what he enjoys. Before this, an establishing shot is used to show that McDonald's could be set up anywhere and is available for everyone to go to. There are a lot of close ups in this advert and this shows how the people are feeling throughout their day. The older man never seems to smile anywhere else in this video apart from at the end when he catches the eye of the younger boy and he smiles for the first time, showing that McDonald's is bringing people together. At one point in this advert you can see the older man looking down of
